Description
A comforting Franco-Swiss quiche with halal-approved plant-based crumbled bacon, eggs, crème fraîche, and a touch of nutmeg. Perfect for family meals or brunch.
Ingredients
1 roll pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
150g halal plant-based ‘bacon’ (store-bought or crumbled tofu marinated in smoked paprika and soy sauce)
3 large eggs
200ml thick crème fraîche (30% fat)
100ml whole milk
1 pinch salt
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 pinch grated nutmeg
50g grated cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F)
Unroll pie crust and fit into a buttered tart pan. Press with a fork.
Cook plant-based ‘bacon’ in a pan until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
Whisk eggs in a bowl. Add crème fraîche, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Mix well.
Pour egg mixture into tart pan. Top with cooked ‘bacon’.
If using cheese, sprinkle over the mixture.
Bake 35-40 minutes until golden and firm.
Notes
Substitute 150g halal plant-based ‘bacon’ for traditional lardons (pork). For a vegan version, skip cheese and use almond-based crème. Let cool slightly before slicing.
