Ingredients
Pasta (spaghetti, tagliatelles, etc. – 16 oz)
1 medium onion
2 garlic cloves
2 tablespoons olive oil
400 g ground beef or beef-veal mix
400 g canned crushed tomatoes
1 tablespoon tomato paste
100 ml heavy cream
1 teaspoon Provencal herbs
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
Grated cheese (Parmesan, Gruyère, or Emmental), for serving
Instructions
Boil 16 oz of pasta in salted water according to package instructions
Heat olive oil in a skillet, sauté onions over medium heat until translucent
Add minced garlic and cook 1 minute
Add ground beef, cook until browned
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and Provencal herbs
Simmer sauce 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally
Reduce heat, stir in heavy cream
Season with salt and pepper
Drain pasta, mix with sauce, and serve topped with grated cheese
Notes
Use olive oil from Provence for authentic flavor
Fresh basil works well as a substitute for herbs
Plant-based ground meat can be used for a vegetarian version
