Description

Ingredients

1 kg potatoes (firm type for mashing)
500 g ground beef
1 large onion
2 garlic cloves
150 ml milk
50 g butter
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg


Instructions

Peel and cube the potatoes. Boil in salted water until tender, then mash with milk and butter to form a smooth purée, seasoned with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté diced onion and minced garlic until softened. Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned.
Mix the cooled beef mixture into the potato purée. Transfer to a greased baking dish. Dot the surface with small pieces of butter and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30-40 minutes, until golden and bubbling.

Notes

Can be prepared ahead and refrigerated until baking. Adjust baking time based on your oven. Add a thin layer of sliced tomato or fresh herbs for extra flavor.
