Description
Cherry crumble with a crispy top and sweetened compote filling, perfect for summer. Made with fresh or frozen cherries, buttery crumble topping, and just a hint of cinnamon. A comforting, nostalgic dessert for all ages.
Ingredients
500 g cherries (fresh or frozen, pitted)
100 g granulated sugar
1 tablespoon maize flour (cornstarch)
100 g cold butter (cut into cubes)
150 g all-purpose flour (T45 or T55)
70 g brown sugar (or light muscovado)
1 pinch ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
Wash and pit fresh cherries, or use frozen cherries without thawing.
Toss cherries with 100 g granulated sugar, 1 tbsp maize flour, and a pinch of cinnamon (optional).
In a large bowl, combine 150 g flour, 70 g brown sugar, and 100 g cold butter. Rub the mixture between your fingers until it forms small crumbly clumps.
Transfer the cherry mixture to a baking dish. Evenly distribute the crumble topping on top.
Bake at 190°C (375°F) for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the fruit is bubbling.
Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Use frozen cherries for convenience. For richer flavor, add a splash of vanilla extract to the cherry mixture. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 24 hours or refrigerate for 3 days.
