Description

A simple yet indulgent cherry crumble from Grandma Julia’s kitchen. This comforting dessert features sweet cherries topped with a golden, crunchy crumb mixture. Perfect for using seasonal fruit and creating a nostalgic, summer-friendly treat.

Ingredients

Scale

750g cherries, pitted
1½ cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup granulated sugar, or to taste
11 tbsp butter, cold and cubed
⅓ cup slivered almonds (optional)
1 tsp non-alcoholic vanilla essence (optional)

Instructions

Wash and pit fresh cherries if needed; frozen cherries can be used directly.
In a bowl, mix flour and sugar. Add non-alcoholic vanilla essence if using.
Cut in cold butter cubes with fingertips until a coarse crumb texture forms.
Spread pitted cherries in a greased 24cm baking dish.
Sprinkle crumb mixture over cherries, reserving some for topping.
Dot the surface with a few pats of cold butter if desired.
Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes until golden and bubbling.

Notes

Use fresh or frozen cherries; ensure they are fully drained if thawing is needed.
For halal compliance, confirm butter is non-hydrogenated.
Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra richness.
