Description
A classic French marbled cake evoking nostalgia with its soft texture and subtle chocolate swirls. Quick to make and perfect for family gatherings, this comforting dessert combines the warmth of vanilla and cocoa for a sweet memory-filled treat.
Ingredients
250g all-purpose flour (T45 or T55)
150g granulated sugar
125g softened unsalted butter
3 large eggs, room temperature
100ml whole milk, warm
11g (1 sachet) baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
Pinch of salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a traditional loaf pan.
In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and 2 tbsp cocoa powder.
In a separate bowl, cream butter with sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
Stir in warm milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
Divide batter into two: keep half plain, and blend cocoa into the other half until marbled.
Pour both mixtures alternately into the pan, then gently run a knife through to create swirled patterns.
Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool before serving.
Notes
Use room-temperature eggs for better binding.
For a lighter touch, reduce sugar to 120g.
T45/T55 flour is commonly used for soft textures in France; all-purpose flour works equivalently.
Add a dusting of cocoa powder before serving for extra flair.
